Reputed to be a telescope used by Alexander Mackenzie on his 1789 trip from Fort Chipewyan down, and back up the Deh Cho (Mackenzie River). The source says that the telescope was purchased from the direct descendants of Alexander Mackenzie's cousin, Roderick Mackenzie. Roderick Mackenzie lived in Terrebonne County, north of Montreal, and took over Alexander Mackenzie’s business interests in about 1812. Date attribution is the year of Mackenzie’s expedition down the Mackenzie River.
