"The octagonal barrel of this non-achromatic telescope is quite typical of telescopes of this relatively early date. It is covered with black sharkskin. Both the eyepiece and objective lenses are set in ivory mounts and have ivory screw-on caps. There is a single draw tube covered in green leather with a small amount of gold-tooled decoration. The draw tube also has three stop lines, each made up of rings of gold-tooled circles. The maker's name is inscribed on the ivory fitting for the objective lens" (Royal Museums Greenwich). Greenwich website suggests H. Huguenin as a maker and suggests year made as circa 1670.
