Dollond stops using flint forward in 1759. Dating is secure from purchase by Royal Observatory in Stockholm. Bengt Ferner traveled to London to see Dollond summer 1759 and ordered several telescope, which were already crown forward. (Royal Observatory has largest Dollond doublet-- 4 inches, with two square wooden tubes, objective has yellowish Venetian crown glass). Black sharkskin is earliest known Dollond and Son. Trade card in box says J Dollond and Son. Telescope is crown forward doublet, thus after 1759. J Dollond dies November 1761, so dating secure at 1759-61. The five lens eyepiece is in brass, main tube is wood, and telescope is in its original box.
