In the eighteenth century several instrument makers worked under the name of ‘Sterrop’. A possible candidate for this telescope is George Sterrop, working in London between 1747 and 1756. Another hand held telescope signed ‘Sterrop’ is in the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich (NAV1514)" (Louwman and Zuidervaart, 2013).
