Magnification ca. 7 times. Third quarter of the eighteenth century . The instrument maker and ‘country showman’ Benjamin Martin (1704-1782) was not only one of the most renowned English popularizers of natural philosophy , but was also important as an innovative instrument maker, especially on the field of microscopy (Louwman and Zuidervaart, 2013).
